Pastoral and Academic Care

Pastoral/Academic Care and Student Leadership:

Aspire Programs:
Brent Sanders: Brent Sanders is the managing director of Winning Edge Strategies.  He offers seminar / workshops  in the areas of self-protection, conflict psychology and motivation.  He is a dynamic presenter, well worth consideration if you are wishing to explore any of these areas.  His past experience as a Police officer adds depth and insight to his sessions.
Daniel Goleman:  One of the fathers of Emotional Intelligence.  I was unsure where to put this guy, Leadership or Pastoral Care so I did both.
Drinkwise: as stated on their website, “DrinkWise is an evidence-based not-for-profit research and social change organisation that fosters innovative approaches towards developing and maintaining a safer drinking culture in Australia”.  I have found that this website has much content that is useful for inclusion within Pastoral care and education programs.  The fact it is scientifically based makes the students more aware of the information covered during discussion.
Elevate: A great group run by Douglas Barton that have some excellent programs for student motivation and study skills.  I have used Elevate to present to my Year 12 students.
Food for the Brain: I have used content from this website for a topic I called ‘Food for Thought’. Useful for educating about nutrition pre-exam or assessment time.
Halogen Foundation: providers of conferences, concerts and other initiatives to promote leadership in Australia’s youth.  Good for the promotion of responsible leadership in students.
Learning Leadership: Online resources and chapters from Dr Tim Hawkes books on student based leadership.  Fantastic resource for developing students’ leadership knowledge and skills.
NSW Dept. Health: The A-Z of health topics.  Useful but some of the links are broken.  I have found this useful as a place for ideas.
Oxygen Factory: Run workshops.  Their mission states “To EDUCATE young people to face challenges with confidence and make positive life choices. To EMPOWER young people to achieve EXCELLENCE and live an influential hope filled life.”
Point Zero Youth Services:
Teen Strategies Group: A business run by Trent Southworth.  I have had Trent present to Year 12 students in preparation for the end of the year, life outside of school and Schoolies.  His talk covered drugs, sexual harassment, adolescents and the law and open questioning time.  As quoted from his website: ‘Trent Southworth is a former NSW Police Officer with over 14 years policing experience, including 8 years employed in the Youth Liaison role. In his role, Trent worked closely with numerous government and non government agencies to identify youth related initiatives such as underage drinking programs, truancy, road safety, drug programs, bullying etc.’
YLead (formerly Australian Youth Development Association): Good for the exploration of leadership initiatives with future school prefects or students in roles of responsability.
