Text:
Blogging (WordPress, EduBlog, Blogger): Places to publish your thoughts and ideas in more than 140 characters. You can also include images, video, sound etc…
EtherPad: An online, real-time word processor that allows for multiple users to access and edit a single document simultaneously. Quoted from their site: “When multiple people edit the same document simultaneously, any changes are instantly reflected on everyone’s screen. The result is a new and productive way to collaborate on text documents, useful for meeting notes, drafting sessions, education, team programming, and more“
Grammar Ninja: A fun game about the use of grammar.
Skype an Author Network: A useful network for those interested in contacting authors and having meeting with them in your classroom / Library.
Spell with Flickr: A handy online tool to generate picture based text using photo’s of letters.
Tagul: An online tag cloud generator that is a little different. Customisable shapes, different fonts and text flyout options.
Textorizer: A free application that allows you to turn text into pictures. Very neat.
TweetDeck: A useful application to help with managing your Twitter account, your tweets and access to the messages of those you follow. Also able to be used to update Facebook status.
Twitter: An extremely useful tool for communicating. It makes you think about what to write as message is limitted to 140 characters.
WallWisher: A space where everyone can stick their thoughts or comment onto a virtual wall. Could be used for gathering class thoughts?
Wordle: An online tool for creating word clouds and analysing text. A lot of fun for the students.
Graphic:
Antique & Classic Photographic Images: A great blog that contains many antique photo’s. I have found much inspiration these images.
Aviary: An online image editing tool.
Flickr: A communal place for the storing of pictures on the Internet. Great for a source of images that are searchable by theme.
Google SketchUp: A great free application from Google that allows the user to develop 3-D images and render them quickly and relatively easy.
Life Magazine: Incredible access to their fantastic photographs
Picnik: An online photo editor. There are several features to this including touchup’s, framing, editing and slideshows.
Psykopaint: Psychopaint is an online picture creation/editing tool that enables you to turn your photographic images into digital paintings. The difference between Psychopaint and many packaged filters is that it is unique every time. The same picture is never achieved twice.
Tag Galaxy: One of the nicest search tools for Flickr. Creates a 3-D globe of pictures by querying image tags.
Sound:
Audacity: An opensource free audio and sound editor.
Aviary: An online multichannel mixer with sound samples.
CC MiXter: ccMixter is a community music site featuring remixes licensed under CC where you can listen to, sample, mash-up, or interact with music in whatever way you want
FreeSounds: The Freesound Project is a collaborative database of Creative Commons (CC) licensed sounds
MusicMoz: A place for reference to heaps of sound samples and loops. Many licenced inder CC.
SoundSnap: High quality sound effects and loops. Subscription based.
VoiceThread: A space where you can share audio recordings in a controlled environment..
Animation:
Animoto: A place where you can turn still images into an animated video sequence.
GoAnimate: A place where you .can create animations online and add storylines to them
Xtranormal: A place where you can make short 3-D movies from text.
Video:
KeepVid: If used responsibly and with consideration to Copyright a great site to use to capture videos from online sources of the Internet.
TeacherTube: Youtube for teachers.
TED Talks: The place where all things wild and wonderful are explained by some of the great thinkers of the world. A MUST for my link list.
TubeChop: A great site to enable the editing of YouTube clips by chopping and re-hosting the modified clip. Also provides the code required for the embedding of the clip.
VodPod: What I use to allow for streaming video content to be included in a Blog posting. Easy to sign up to and even easier to post blogs with embedded media content.
YouTube: We all know this one. An online video depository for just about any topic.

KeepVid: An online video capture website
SecondLife: A virtual world where you can create anything.
TweetDeck: Cool software utility to help in the management of your Twitter / Facebook posts and updates.
PageFlakes: Create an online page that shows your favourite RSS feed
Prezi: A cool online presenation creation package, sort of like PowerPoint
Posterous: The simplest of Blogs or an online display space
ZAMZAR: Free online file conversion
Random Miscellaneous:
DivShare: A free online storage space offering up to 5Gb.
Evernote: A tool to make the world notable. I have not tries this yet but it looks promising.
Jing: A handy, Free screen capture tool
Google Earth : See the world and zoom in on landmarks. Also allows for access to Streetview.
Media Fire: An online storage space for your files. Basically unlimitted storage with largest file at 100Mb
Megazine3: A free Flash page flip engine
OpenCulture:
WebNode: Free web hosting
Weebly for Education: A free website and blog creation and hosting place. I’ve never used but was named in Time’s 50 best websites so cannot be too bad.
Wix: An online web development site that appears to assist with the development of Flash based sites for FREE. I am still to evaluate this but looks good from the surface.
