I have spent a bit of time getting Open Sim to work on the students machines here at my school and now we are starting to develop our islands, give identities to the avatars and to build using the prims.

One of the limitations I noticed in the students thought was that they felt limitted by the geometry of the virtual environment, hence thought organic or artistic image/building ideas were of little use. I had seen the below clip earlier this year so spent some time searching for it to show to them.

The students were mesmerized by watching the process. By watching the geometric world of vectors become organic and soft in this machinima piece by Robbie Dingo depicting his re-creation of the Vincent Van Gough artwork, The Starry Night. My student have since started to create with a better idea of the limitless potential of creativity.
