I received a flyer by email today that sounds like a fun and authentic learning experience for those that get involved. It is aimed at mid to upper secondary students and will be held at North Sydney College on May 25 and 26 2011. Read below for more information:

Digi-Girls Spark Art course is a registered program for National Career Development Week. See part of flier below.

What is ‘Spark Art’?
This workshop will introduce girls to some of the latest technology to come out of the Electro-technology and IT worlds intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. An ‘Arduino’, which the girls will be using and programming, is an electronics platform based on flexible, easy-to-use open-source hardware and software.

As part of a team, the girls will design and build an LED cube that will then be programmed, using software, to produce a creative light show in time to music and other performance based criteria, through an Arduino. The resulting work will be presented to parents, friends and teachers at the end of the two days.

Target group: girls who enjoy Visual Arts, Design,  and IT.

By the way…Vivid Sydney: Our course will precede this great Sydney arts festival and the girls will see immediate industry application of the introductory skills they will have undertaken within Spark Art: Sydney will be transformed into a spectacular canvas of light, music and ideas when Vivid Sydney takes over the city after dark from 27 May -13 June 2011.  The festival will be celebrating Sydney as the creative hub of the Asia Pacific. Vivid Sydney will color the city with creativity and inspiration, featuring breathtaking immersive light projections on the iconic Sydney Opera House sails, and a free outdoor exhibition of interactive light sculptures. Unique and gripping, each of their creations is an immersive experience, seamlessly integrating every possible technique into new forms of multimedia expression.
