Here is a short interview with an educator about using Twitter as a tool to assist the development of a Professional Learning Network (PLN), as an educational tool and as a means to promote the sharing and transfering of info with others of like interest.
The clip is called: #140conf Interview #25 w/ @nmhs_principal and is worth consideration when trying to promote Twitter at PD days and to other colleagues.

I have added this video to the blog as I think it is one of the best examples of stop motion animation I have seen in a while. I will be sure to use some of this artists/animators clips as stimulus examples next year when it comes around to teaching the topic and skills.

New World Notes: REMAKE THE STARS

I have spent a bit of time getting Open Sim to work on the students machines here at my school and now we are starting to develop our islands, give identities to the avatars and to build using the prims.

One of the limitations I noticed in the students thought was that they felt limitted by the geometry of the virtual environment, hence thought organic or artistic image/building ideas were of little use. I had seen the below clip earlier this year so spent some time searching for it to show to them.

The students were mesmerized by watching the process. By watching the geometric world of vectors become organic and soft in this machinima piece by Robbie Dingo depicting his re-creation of the Vincent Van Gough artwork, The Starry Night. My student have since started to create with a better idea of the limitless potential of creativity.

Here is a very useful and interesting slide show on Web 2.0 Social Media. Jess, the author, prepared this slideshow as support for a presentation she gave earlier this year at a YAPA Youth Worker’s conference. She has also posted the transcript of what she presented here.

Jess’s blog is insightful, relevant and intersting comments on a broad range of topics. I recommend it.

Until I get the chance to properly comment on this clip I will just pose the following questions:

What technologies mentioned here do we use in educating our students?
How well do we use it?
How adaptable are our students to emerging technologies?
How adaptable are we?
How are these technologies shaping the learning needs of our students?
How will pedagogical practice change for educators?

I will also add this extract from YouTube about the clip:

As educators we have all been beaten with Bloom’s taxonomy and the ways of the mind and the orders of thinking.  Here though is an interesting website where Bloom’s taxonomy is explored in a digital context.  Software and online resources are listed according to which of the orders of thinking that emphasise or exercise.  Have a look, well worth it just for the ideas and resources:

I came across this short video explanation of the difference between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 and was delighted at how simple it was. I will use this video in the future to begin my students thinking and understanding.
